I believe I mentioned before that I have narcolepsy. I have been having difficulty with my sleep patterns lately after a failed attempt to change meds which resulted in serotonin syndrome. It sucked and I'm still working hard to get back to normal.
Anyway, Friday night resulted in me finishing this little beauty.
Saturday I had an art date with Gma. She has been down and out since she had to move retirement homes. This place doesn't have as many activities for her and they've been treating her like she's not as coherent as she really is. I'll be showing you our work once we finish it! No Zentangling, but it's gonna be great!
Saturday night resulted in this guy.
Boo Boo (the boyfriend. An extremely southern bartender in New Orleans told him "ok boo boo" when we were down for Mardi Gras. The name stuck.) anyway! Boo boo said it portrayed my mood, like a vortex. I didn't find it as unsettling as he did. What do you think?
Sunday's doodle.
Very circle-y. And octopus-like. I was feeling a little nutty from the lack of sleep. I think that affected it. I couldn't stop adding patterns, and started obsessing with circles. And I am obsessed with octopuses.
And Monday. Today.
I had an appointment with my narcolepsy specialist. I am going to be trying Xyrem now. Which is a little scary. It's a legal form of GHB. But it apparently can be very effective in treating narcolepsy and cataplexy. So I'm hopeful. If my insurance approves it.
I was grouchy about the challenge, honestly. And it was a rough day. I am NOT ambidextrous. But it was fun and definitely made me think differently and create something totally different from my normal stuff. I will be completely honest and admit that I didn't make it as detailed because it was very difficult to use my right hand, but I do like the simplicity.
So, for the challenge for today.
So there's my weekend in the form of zentangles. It's interesting to see the differences in my work from day to day. I can totally see the changes in my mood. I think I need to make more of an effort to journal about that kind of stuff along with the tangles.
Hope you check back for more!
Great weekend of tangles. And I love the vortex one. It's quite calming, gently swirling. And I like the off-hand tangle. You have great control. Good luck with the new medication. Sleep deprivation is a terrible thing, although it can be productive for a while.
ReplyDeleteAll of them are very nice :)
ReplyDeleteYo are an amazing artist! This post was powerful and beautiful because it was not just about pen and paper, but about you. Thank you for sharing your journey.
ReplyDeleteAll are beautiful and you used fantastic colors. The challenge piece is great and has well done shading.
ReplyDeleteYou tiles are beautiful and colourful. I especially like your challenge tile which exudes with simplicity. Its wonderful that you can support your Gma.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your coloring! The non dom challenge was just that and I think we were all brave to go forward! Thank you for sharing your narcolepsy story as well, my daughter's best friend deals with that and she is a surgeon in Monrovia West Africa...so as you can imagine very stressful life. I believe she is on the same med as you are starting on. TFS!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great color pieces and your challenge piece is so simply lovely, with the subtle shading. Hang in there! Hope that it works for you!
ReplyDeleteLovely tiles. Like your challenge tile. Good luck with the meds, my best friend had narcolepsy. Don't know what she takes, she calls it her wake up medicine. She's also the only person I know that has a note from her doctor allowing her to take naps.
ReplyDeleteBe strong! Please, let us continue to enjoy you work! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love your colored ones - beautiful!! And the challenge is charming!! ~ Diane Clancy
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, firstly, yes, you're right, you should write more as well as the drawing. If it helps you and interests us it is a useful thing to do. As for the drawings, they were all lovely in very different ways. I was fascinated by the vortex - it is so skillful and then the first one, tropical and lush, very good. You made me think too and I looked back over what I produced over the week and could see my moods reflected in them. Good insight, thanks.
ReplyDeleteTo me, your first tile seems upbeat and cheerful----so much for me having my finger on the pulse of other people's emotions-----let alone my own. I don't have narcolepsy, but I have a pretty deranged lack of a normal circadian rhythm so I have some idea about how disruptive lack of a normal sleep/wake cycle can be. Kudos for not letting it derail your art!
